A nursing center is a medical
facility licensed by the state that provides 24-hour nursing
care, room and board, and activities for convalescent residents and
those with chronic and/or long-term illnesses. The availability of
regular medical supervision and rehabilitation therapy is required.
Such services are typically utilized on a short-term basis after a
hospitalization for injury or illness. Patients can receive almost any
kind of rehabilitative therapy in nursing centers these days, most of
which will be covered, in whole or part, by Medicare or Medicare
HMO's. This alternative may be referred to as a Nursing Facility or
Convalescent Home.
A nursing center is designed to care for very frail people that are not
able to care for themselves and have numerous health care requirements
that are not met by residential care or home care.
Nursing centers are charge by the day since many patients are only in
residence for a short time. Different facilities charge different
prices but high prices are no guarantee of good care. Contact the
facilities in your area for details. Do the comparison among different
ones before making your decision. Contact Medicare or Medi-cal for
payment information .
