Three steps for getting your caregiver certification

Step 1 Find a caregiver training program that is recognized by your stateís department of health. Most states have caregiver resource centers that can assist you in locating a reputable training class. In many cases, training is available at local colleges, vocational schools, organizations such as the American Red Cross, and at local and national caregiver organizations. National organizations include the National Association for Home Care and Hospice, the Family Caregiver Alliance and the National Family Caregivers Association.

Step 2 Take and complete a caregiver training class. During your training, you learn a variety of subject matter, including housekeeping, home safety, personal hygiene and medical care. The exact course length of the class depends on the program and the provider. Some caregiver training classes are free, while others cost a fee.

Step 3  Take and pass the required examination at the end of your caregiver training. Upon passing, you are awarded a certification credential from the agency responsible for overseeing your training.

Caregiver certification is inexpensive at only $79.00 and as renewed every two years.  For those interested in becoming a nationally certified assisted manager consider taking our National Assisted Living Manager Certification Course (NALMCC).   In the mean time, best of luck to all the hardworking and caring caregivers who do so much to make the lives of others just a little bit better.

Caregiver Certification Course designed for in-home and assisted living caregivers, includes training in ethics, clientís rights, and elder abuse as well as training in emergency first aid, personal care and assistance with daily living tasks like mobility, bathing, and toileting.  Throughout the course students are taught to respect the individualís rights to privacy and dignity and provide care in such a way that the personís independence is enhanced and supported rather than removed.  The entire course provides a comprehensive program of more than 70 hours of caregiver training.

Caregivers for Alzheimerís patients or those with dementia or memory loss deal with a special set of caregiving needs. Thatís something that our friends at  The Alzheimerís Store  know all too well. Theyíve made it their mission to bring to the senior care market a variety of products to make caring for those living with Alzheimerís disease and dementia easier and make the Alzheimerís years just a little more safe and comfortable. Here, they discuss a popular product that makes life easier. More critically,    national caregiver certification is the expectation in the industry .    The same is true for assisted living manager certification.  Therefore, we strongly urge you to keep this in mind as you look to advance your career in the health care field, as a personal care aide, caregiver or assisted living manager more specifically.   Having our certification simply puts you ahead of the game now, and in the long term.

On a more practical level our caregiver certification provides you with the opportunity to fine-tune your knowledge and acquire new skills and techniques with minimal out of pocket cost at $79.00.  This, as opposed to going to a more traditional caregiver training school or course which can cost thousands of dollars, extra expense such as gas, and time that you may not have.  If you are interested in becoming a nationally certified caregiver  or nationally certified assisted living manager and being entered into their national database.
