Allergy Testing Options
Allergy Testing Options In modern society, allergies are a growing concern. To ensure the health of yourself and others, allergy testing has become a necessary health check-up. Allergy testing can help people understand their allergens so they can take preventive measures, and it can also help doctors better advise patients on diagnosis and treatment. Currently, there are two main types of allergy testing: IgE allergy testing and IgG allergy testing. Both tests have their own advantages and disadvantages, as follows:
1. IgE allergy test IgE allergy test is also called a skin test. It injects a certain amount of allergens into the skin and observes the reaction of the skin at the injection site to determine whether an individual has an allergic reaction to a certain allergen. The advantage of IgE allergy testing is that it has a high accuracy rate of over 95%.
In addition, the test can also reveal the root cause of allergies and provide the basis for precise allergy treatment. However, the disadvantage of IgE allergy testing is that false negative or false positive results may occur, and the test results need to wait for a period of time to obtain the results.
2. IgG allergy test IgG allergy test is also called serology test. It determines whether an individual has an allergic reaction to a certain allergen by testing the level of antibodies to a certain allergen in the blood. The advantage of IgG allergy testing is that it is rapid, and test results can be obtained within dozens of minutes.
In addition, the test is highly accurate and can reach almost 100% accuracy. However, the disadvantage of this test is that it cannot find the root cause of the allergy, so for some people, multiple tests may be needed to identify the allergen. When choosing an allergy test, patients are advised to choose the appropriate type of test based on their individual circumstances and needs. If you are very concerned about a certain allergen, it is recommended to choose IgE allergy testing. If you need rapid test results, it is recommended to choose IgG allergy test. However, keep in mind that allergy testing is only one aspect of allergy issues, and a confirmed diagnosis requires other tests, such as skin itch tests, blood tests, etc.
