Non-GMO Foods

Non-GMO food is a health food that has attracted much attention. It refers to food that does not use genetic engineering technology or its products during production and processing. Non-GMO foods have many health benefits for humans, including reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancer. The definition of non-GMO food is stipulated in the "Non-GMO Food Labeling Guidelines" promulgated by the U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2018. The guidance defines four elements of non-GMO food: ingredients, production, processing and transportation. Non-GMO food must meet the following four conditions:

1. Raw materials: The raw materials of non-GMO food must be grown, harvested or raised in an environment that is not contaminated by genetically modified plants or their products.

2. Production: The production process of non-GMO food must avoid the use of genetic engineering technology or its products, including crops modified using modern biotechnology (such as gene editing technology).

3. Processing: The processing of non-GMO foods must be the same as traditional food processing methods to retain the natural ingredients of the food to the greatest extent.

4. Transportation: Non-GMO foods must not be affected by genetically modified substances during transportation. Non-GMO foods are generally healthier than traditional GMO foods because they do not use genetic engineering techniques or their products.

In addition, non-GMO foods do not contain chemicals harmful to human health, such as oxalic acid, heavy metals, and chemical pesticides. However, despite the many advantages of non-GMO foods, public awareness and trust in them remains somewhat controversial. Some people believe that harmful natural ingredients may still be present in non-GMO foods, and there may be some safety hazards during production and processing. Therefore, in order to protect the health and safety of consumers, it is recommended that consumers choose reputable brands and suppliers when purchasing non-GMO foods, and also choose formal channels to purchase food to avoid purchasing inferior or low-quality food.

In addition, the government should also strengthen supervision of non-GMO foods to ensure that they meet safety standards.

In short, non-GMO foods are healthy foods, but the public still has certain doubts about them. By choosing reputable brands and suppliers, and strengthening government supervision, we can buy and use non-GMO foods with confidence, bringing more health and deliciousness to our lives.
